EU Public Affairs

The Trade Council at the Embassy of Denmark in Belgium supports Danish business interests in relation to the EU and its institutions. The influence of the EU on the international framework and market opportunities is increasing, shaping the landscape for Danish companies both with regards to the EU single market as well as trade with countries outside of the EU. On this basis, the Trade Council in Brussels offers tailored public affairs (GPA) services to Danish companies, who are interested in interacting with the EU institutions, one of the many business organisations based in Brussels, or other relevant stakeholders.

The Trade Council in Brussels consists of a small team of experts and advisors with deep insight and understanding of the EU system in addition to sector specific competencies and profiles in line with Danish strongholds on energy, sustainability, digitalisation, tech, life science, health, and biosolutions.

The Trade Council in Brussels offers GPA services and advice within:

  • Stakeholder mapping in relation to the EU, EU institutions, etc.
  • Agenda setting and positioning of Danish business interests, for instance looking into challenges and possibilities regarding EU policy areas, legislative frameworks etc.
  • Advice on geopolitical issues including geopolitical aspects of the sector policies such as technology, innovation, industrial policy, raw materials, etc.
  • Planning and execution of roundtable discussions or larger events within our priority sectors, such as biosolutions, life science, energy, digitalisation.
  • Organisation and facilitation of meetings with EU actors and relevant stakeholders in Brussels.
  • Research on Danish business opportunities in relation to the EU.
  • Delegation visits.
  • Other areas of cooperation and strategic business initiatives.

There is an increased demand for strengthened interaction with EU institutions and stakeholders from Danish businesses these years. With the European elections of 2024, the European Commission and the European Parliament start a new 5-year term. Danish businesses therefore have a window of opportunity to look more towards the EU and Brussels, not least due to the expected increased focus on new policy initiatives within competition, industry, and/or specific sector areas, such as life science, tech innovation etc. Moreover, Denmark will chair the rotating Presidency of the Council of the EU during the second half of 2025, during which Denmark will have a unique opportunity to push Danish priorities and promote Danish strongholds.

If your company has an interest in closer dialogue with the EU institutions on specific EU policy areas or upcoming legislation, or is looking into business opportunities in the EU, please do not hesitate to contact the Trade Council in Brussels. We are also working closely with our colleagues in other EU member states. Therefore, we are able to offer services such as thematic events and stakeholder mapping, where the effort is coordinated from Brussels with the desired activities taking place in the selected member state.
